Clinical Pilates gives a maximum of 4 people per class some personal one on one attention from our physio staff. The small groups are intimate enough to be inspired by others in the group but also save on the cost of individual consultations.
Our Clinical Pilates Studio Programme helps you get lasting results by treating the underlying causes of most pain and movement difficulties. Poor posture, reduced core strength and muscle imbalances are some of the factors that may be contributing to your pain. Our Studio is located in North Perth and is fully equipped with Reformers, a Trapeze Table and a Wunda Chair.
Your first session will be a thorough Pilates assessment with an experienced Pilates Physiotherapist. We look at factors such as your medical history, range of movement, muscle strength, muscle imbalances, tension patterns, posture and balance. From this assessment your Physiotherapist makes a list of problems (for example pain, stiff joints or specific muscle weakness) and a list of goals, which directly address these problems. Your Pilates programme will then be based on these goals.
Individual Training Session
At your second session, you commence your individual Pilates training in our Studio. Your Physiotherapist will coach you on a one-to-one basis, teaching you how to do the exercises and providing feedback and hands-on guidance to ensure correct technique, posture and alignment. We also train you in safe use of the Studio equipment. You will have a customized written programme, including a home exercise programme. Once you’ve completed your assessment and initial training session, you can book yourself in for further private Pilates appointments with our Physiotherapist (25, 40 or 60 minutes). When you and your Physiotherapist both feel you are ready you can progress to semi-private sessions. Please discuss the best option for your circumstances with your Physiotherapist.
Practice your new customized programme, improve your technique and alignment and expand your repertoire on the equipment in our Studio Programme. These can be booked as either once or twice a week as a block of 5 sessions, each of one hour duration. Your Physiotherapist will be present all the time to supervise and coach you. You will be reminded about how to do each exercise, adding in new exercises and progressing the level of difficulty as your pain reduces and you perfect your technique. This is a form or Physiotherapy treatment, not an ‘exercise class’.
During a semi-private Clinical Pilates studio session, each person completes an informal circuit around the equipment, following their own customised, written programme. Your Physiotherapist will remind you how to do each exercise, adding in new exercises and progressing the level of difficulty as your pain reduces and you perfect your technique. Most exercises will be on the Reformers, Trapeze Table and Wunda chair, but we’ll also give you some exercises you can practice with small equipment at home.
Independent Pilates Practice
This programme allows you to use our Studio equipment regularly to practice your Pilates exercises independently. Before you can begin you must reach a high level of competence and safety with your exercises. Your Physiotherapist will test your ability to set up the equipment and show you which exercises on your programme you are safe to practice unsupervised. Your Physio will review your progress and further develop your programme once every 5 weeks, or more often if required.
