Expanding Reaching and Turning

The exercises in this video are an abbreviated version of a full Awareness Through Movement Lesson. The Feldenkrais Method is a wonderful way to improve movement, release pain and tension and enhance well-being.

It was designed by inventor, nuclear physicist and martial artist Dr Moshe Feldenkrais.

This lesson really helps to open the front of the chest, while freeing your hips, lower back and neck for easier twisting and turning. It’s one of the most popular I’ve taught and certainly one of the safest, gentlest and most effective. I’ve called it ‘Expanding Reaching and Turning’ but it’s also known as ‘The Lazy Archer’. It’s really helpful for people who find it hard to find a comfortable sleeping posture too.

TIPS FOR MAXIMUM BENEFIT
Pay attention to your breathing – allow it to be natural and easy
Reduce effort and keep the movements Small, Slow and Smooth
Don’t do anything that doesn’t feel right to you

SUGGESTED INSTRUCTIONS
First watch the video, imagining yourself doing the movements smoothly and effortlessly. Then lie down on a comfortable mat, thick carpet or folded blanket and do the movements with your eyes closed, listening to the instructions and paying close attention to the sensations in your body.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Listen to your body, move slowly and mindfully and never do anything that doesn’t feel comfortable or right to you. This is an intermediate level exercise.
