Awareness Through Movement Classes

Led by experienced physiotherapist Jodie Krantz, our Free2Move classes draw on the Feldenkrais Method to support neuromuscular re-education and functional movement. Through gentle, guided explorations, participants learn to move with greater ease, awareness, and coordination—benefiting both body and mind.

These group sessions, known as Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons, offer a practical and therapeutic approach to improving proprioception, interoception, and overall body awareness. Many people find that regular practice helps reduce pain, tension, and reliance on hands-on treatment.

Classes are calming, restorative, and often deeply relaxing. You’ll explore more efficient ways to perform everyday movements—such as walking, bending, lifting, or getting on and off the floor—with less effort and more comfort.

Held in a small, friendly, and supportive environment, Free2Move classes invite you to rediscover the pleasure of movement. Whether you’re seeking relief, resilience, or simply a more mindful connection with your body, these sessions offer a gentle yet powerful path forward.

What Happens During an Awareness Through Movement Class

During an Awareness Through Movement class you usually lie on a comfortable mat while your Practitioner talks you through a series of connected movements. The movements are done slowly, smoothly and mindfully. Each week you explore different movement patterns, rather than repeating the same exercises

How Does Feldenkrais Work?

The Feldenkrais Method is grounded in contemporary neuroscience, particularly the principle of neuroplasticity—the brain’s remarkable ability to change and adapt throughout life. This understanding has transformed how we approach movement, posture, and rehabilitation.

Most of our movements and postural habits are automatic, shaped by years of repetition. Because these patterns operate beneath conscious awareness, traditional efforts to “correct” posture often fail. We simply can’t sustain conscious attention to how we sit, stand, or move while engaging in daily life. As soon as our focus shifts, old habits resurface.

In Awareness Through Movement classes and Feldenkrais-informed individual sessions, we engage in structured movement explorations that gently interrupt habitual patterns. By sensing and comparing different movement options, we discover more efficient, comfortable ways to move. This process stimulates new neural connections and expands the brain’s capacity for learning and adaptation.

Over time, participants develop heightened sensitivity to subtle sensations. This increased awareness allows for earlier detection of discomfort or strain—often before pain arises—enabling timely adjustments. Movements that once felt stiff, awkward, or painful can become fluid, effortless, and even pain-free.

While change is often gradual, many people experience striking improvements in comfort, coordination, and ease—sometimes within a single session.
